The Government of the Plurinational State of Bolivia welcomes the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) and warmly congratulates the organization on its 11th anniversary.
UNASUR is the commitment of our peoples to develop South American identity and citizenship, as a space for cultural, social, economic, and political integration for more than 400 million citizens, which aims at overcoming inequality, promoting citizen participation, strengthening democracy, and reducing asymmetries within the framework of sovereignty and the Independence of the States.
Under the mandate provided for in the Constitutive Treaty and Resolution Nº 15/2014 of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, on April 17Bolivia assumed effective exercise of the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Union of South American Nations, for the 2018-2019 term.
On April 12, during an event held within the framework of the Eighth Summit of the Americas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Argentina, Mr. Jorge Faurie, officially transferred the Pro Tempore Presidency of UNASUR to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Mr. Fernando Huanacuni, in presence of Mr. Nestor Popolizio, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Peru.
Under the direction of the Constitutional President of the Republic, Mr. Evo Morales Ayma, the Plurinational State of Bolivia will exercise the Pro tempore Presidency of UNASUR, with a leading spirit and will of integration and union among the Member States.
During its Pro Tempore Presidency, the Plurinational State of Bolivia will prioritize dialogue, cooperation, peace, democracy, citizen participation, and the respect for human rights, as the path to contribute with participatory, consensus-achieved construction of full and harmonious integration of our South America.
