The 3rd Ordinary Meeting of the Electoral Council of UNASUR was held on November 4 and 5, 2017, in Mitad del Mundo (Quito), with the participation of representatives from 11 out of the 12 Members Countries of the Union.
The meeting was opened, and the agenda was approved. Afterwards, the participants discussed about the advancements and commitments linked to the implementation of the 2016-2018 Action Plan, as well as on the progress achieved by the Electoral Missions deployed so far. The representatives also reviewed the agreements from the 4th Extraordinary Meeting, and presented the single format for Mission Agreements.
During the opening speech, Fernando Alvarez, the Pro Tempore President of the Council, welcomed the meeting and underlined its importance for it will allow to strengthen South American democracy.
At the same time, the President of the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador, Juan Pablo Pozo, presented to the meeting the report on the mission for the 2016 Plebiscite on the Peace Agreements in Colombia, under his General Coordination.
The Electoral Council ratified the importance of the exchange space to strengthen the regional integration process.
